Hace 40 años la cigüeña criaba en España y después realizaba una migración hacia zonas más cálidas como el sur del Sáhara donde se alimentaba durante el período más hostil, para regresar por las fechas actuales, haciendo honor al popular dicho

Por San Blas, la cigüeña verás.
Si no la vieres, año de nieves
y si la vieres, año de bienes.

La comida fácil y abundante de los basureros, así como el agua en los regadíos han conseguido "evitar" que las aves emigraran. España ya no es sólo destino invernal para las cigüeñas sino también eligen volar a la Península aves del centro y norte de Europa donde su territorio está cubierto por nieve durante los meses de diciembre y enero, como las grullas, los gansos y aves acuáticas como las avefrías.

40 years ago, the storks in Spain, after breeding, emigrate to warmer areas like sub-Saharan for feeding during the hostile period, to return to the current date honoring the popular saying 'on San Blas, you'll see the Stork'.
